Staff Pharmacist – Clinical Drug Utilization Review (Remote)

Location:

Remote (Candidates must reside in one of the following states: Arizona, Texas, Indiana, New Hampshire, Florida, or New York)

Schedule:

Day Shift | Candidates must be able to support Pacific Time Zone hours

Start Times:
Beginning between 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM PST

Job Summary

We are seeking a Staff Pharmacist to support clinical Drug Utilization Review (DUR) activities within a digital pharmacy environment. This role focuses on ensuring medication safety, evaluating prescription appropriateness, supporting patient care, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to improve medication access and outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and experience with pharmacy operations, prior authorization processes, and medication management.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Medication Review
  • Perform comprehensive clinical reviews of prescription orders for drug appropriateness, dosage, interactions, contraindications, and route of administration.
  • Evaluate patient profiles, including medical history, laboratory information, allergies, and current medications.
  • Identify potential medication-related issues and provide recommendations for therapy changes when appropriate.
  • Conduct Drug Utilization Review (DUR) to promote safe and effective medication use.
Provider and Patient Support
  • Answer clinical pharmacy questions and provide medication-related guidance.
  • Collaborate with prescribers, pharmacy technicians, and healthcare team members.
  • Document clinical communications and recommendations accurately.
  • Investigate, resolve, and report medication errors.
Pharmacy Operations & Technology
  • Utilize pharmacy systems and automation technology to support prescription fulfillment and accuracy.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve pharmacy automation issues.
  • Partner with pharmacy technicians and technical teams to optimize workflows and maintain quality standards.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Dispense controlled substances in accordance with DEA regulations and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Maintain accurate records related to controlled substances, inventory, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Follow pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain required documentation and participate in compliance initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within pharmacy operations.
  • Assist across pharmacy departments as needed.
  • Perform tasks that may require standing, warehouse-related activities, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
  • Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of employment.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with pharmacy systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Drug Utilization Review (DUR), prior authorization, or clinical pharmacy services.
  • Knowledge of applicable pharmacy laws and state/federal regulations.
  • Experience managing high-volume workflows while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Experience with retail, mail-order, specialty, or digital pharmacy operations.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
