Staff Pharmacist

This remote Staff Pharmacist role focuses on providing safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy services for an online pharmacy environment. You will perform clinical drug utilization reviews, ensure regulatory compliance, support automated dispensing systems, and deliver high-quality customer service, all while working from home on a swing shift schedule supporting the Pacific Time Zone.

  • Perform clinical checks of Drug Utilization Reviews (DUR) for pharmacy customers to ensure safe, appropriate, and effective medication therapy.
  • Maintain comprehensive customer profiles, including current and past medical history, clinical and laboratory data, and concurrent medications such as prescriptions, over-the-counter products, and home remedies.
  • Evaluate physician medication orders for appropriateness of drug selection, dosage, potential drug interactions, and route of administration, and make recommendations for therapy changes to prescribers when appropriate.
  • Operate, utilize, and monitor pharmacy automation systems and automated dispensing and fulfillment systems to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely preparation of prescription orders.
  • Troubleshoot pharmacy automation systems and collaborate with pharmacy technicians and engineering teams to resolve automation issues, optimize workflows, and maintain compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Accurately dispense controlled substances in accordance with DEA regulations and applicable state-specific laws.
  • Maintain thorough, timely, and auditable records of all controlled substance transactions, including inventory management, reconciliation, and required reporting.
  • Provide clinical support by answering clinical questions, offering medication-related guidance, and collaborating with healthcare team members.
  • Document all communications with healthcare team members and ensure clear, complete, and compliant clinical documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve medication errors, contributing to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
  • Implement and follow policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Maintain required regulatory documentation and ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Support pharmacy operations across departments as needed, including tasks related to data entry, prior authorization support, and customer service.
  • Perform physical tasks as needed, which may include warehouse-related work and lifting items as required for pharmacy operations.

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Active and unrestricted pharmacy license in the state of employment, with the ability to obtain additional state licenses if required. Proficiency with basic computer functions and pharmacy information systems. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with patients, prescribers, and healthcare team members. Ability to perform accurate and timely Drug Utilization Review (DUR).

Experience with pharmacy operations including data entry, prior authorization processes, and customer service. Capability to operate and troubleshoot pharmacy automation and automated dispensing systems. Ability to manage responsibilities related to controlled substances in compliance with DEA and state regulations.

  • Understanding of pharmacy laws and federal and state regulations.
  • Ability to manage a high call volume while maintaining high-quality customer service and clinical accuracy.
  • Experience working in a high-volume or technology-enabled pharmacy environment.
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with pharmacy technicians, engineering teams, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
