1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); and

2. One (1) year of post-licensure supervisory experience; or eighteen (18) months of post-licensure experience; and

3. Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory training within three (3) months of appointment.
SPECIAL

NOTE:

Must successfully complete the NYC Health + Hospitals Family Court Mental Health Services (FCMHS) Forensic Training Program within twelve (12) months of appointment.
Employees must maintain a valid Psychologist license for the duration of employment by completing thirtysix (36) hours of Continuing Education (CE) from a New York State Department of Education-approved provider every three (3) years after the initial certification.

Purpose of Position:

This class of positions encompasses professional and/or supervisory work of varying degrees of difficulty in the field of forensic psychology within the City’s Family Court System. This position conducts court-ordered evaluations of a culturally diverse population of families, youths and adults for juvenile delinquency, termination of parental rights, custody disputes, neglect and abuse cases, and other Family Court proceedings. Ensures evaluations are conducted in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and psychology standards of care.

In addition, as a mandated reporter, documents and reports suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the New York State Central Registry.

Under direction, with very broad latitude for independent action or decision-making, performs difficult and responsible professional and/or supervisory work in the field of psychology.

Examples of Typical Tasks:

1. Plans, organizes and supervises psychological services for the Family Court Mental Health Services and participates in the development of program objectives.

2. Advises on kinds of services to be rendered, areas to be emphasized, and utilization of psychological services to help meet overall program objectives.

3. Provides general consultation and training-assistance to the Family Court, Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship programs, and other stakeholders involved in the Juvenile Justice/Child Protective/Domestic Violence systems.

4. Supervises the work of psychologists and administrative staff and acts as a consultant to them on problems they encounter.

5. Leads, or co-leads, weekly clinic team meetings.

6. Conducts secondary review of prepared e-case files.

7. Supports senior team management and overall team operations through activities such as providing clinical oversight or coverage in the absence of the clinic director; supporting the training director in developing or executing training activities, or supporting research activities.

8. Communicates or interacts with court personnel as directed by the clinic. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing status reports for submission to the court.

9. Establishes staffing allocations, assignments and work schedules within the Family Court department.

10. May assist with writing grant proposals to receive independent funding for the programs.
