Health Facilities is seeking a Health Facility Surveyor. Join our team that ensures patients and residents in healthcare facilities are safe and receiving quality care. ND Health and Human Services' multidisciplinary assessment team is seeking Health Facility Surveyors.

Work and travel with a team throughout North Dakota to determine health care facilities' compliance with state and federal regulations by conducting on-site surveys and evaluating the care provided. You will observe the care provided; interview facility staff, family members and patients and residents; and review records to determine the quality of the care provided. In this role, your primary assignment will be to survey long-term care facilities and will be cross trained into other programs.

To be successful in this position, you must be able to communicate clearly and respectfully with all types of people. You must have strong organizational and time management skills. You will continually learn and stay on top of the current standards of practice to ensure facilities meet regulations within our jurisdiction. You must enjoy visiting communities throughout the state.

To be considered for the Health Care Facility Surveyor position, you must meet one of the following education/experience combinations:

  • RN license with ND Board of Nursing (or eligibility for licensing) plus two (2) years of health care experience within the past three years,
  • Or bachelor's degree in another licensed healthcare category (preferably social work or dietitian) plus two (2) years of health care experience within the last three years.

Also, you must have a valid driver's license or can travel from one location to another within the state on your own.

All health care facilities are smoke free environments and are homes for vulnerable adults with allergies and compromised immune systems. Smoking and its residual odors can place these individuals at risk for other health complications. Therefore, it may be a conflict of interest if the applicant is a tobacco user.

Location and Schedule

Surveyors work and travel throughout North Dakota with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Surveyors generally work four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, with weekends and holidays off. Surveyors travel approximately 60% of the time. Travel does require consecutive nights away from home. You may be able to work from home when not in the field completing surveys. A state car is provided for travel.

Applicants must live in North Dakota or bordering communities.
