About Tailwind Care

Tailwind Care is building a better way to care for kids and teens with metabolic health concerns through a family-centered model. Too often, families are left to navigate fragmented care, long waitlists, and a system that treats medical, nutritional, and behavioral needs separately.

We bring medical care, nutrition, and behavioral health together in one coordinated, evidence-based program, covered by insurance. Our goal is to help kids and teens build healthier lives, with care that is practical, compassionate, and built around the whole family.

About the role

As a Licensed Pediatric Therapist at Tailwind Care, you’ll provide evidence-based behavioral health care to children and adolescents with obesity and weight-related health concerns, and their caregivers, through virtual care.

You’ll help patients and families address the emotional, behavioral, and family factors that influence health, including motivation, self-esteem, family dynamics, anxiety, mood, body image, and sustainable behavior change. You’ll work with physicians, registered dietitians, and care coordinators as part of an integrated care team.

As a 1099 independent contractor with Tailwind Care, you will not be eligible for employee benefits, including health insurance or paid time off. Tailwind will provide services to support your practice, such as patient matching, billing, and admin support.

What you’ll own
  • Assess and treat patients and their families. Conduct behavioral health assessments and deliver developmentally appropriate, evidence-based therapy to children, adolescents, and caregivers, matched to each family's needs and goals.

  • Support sustainable behavior change. Help families identify barriers, build skills, set realistic goals, and shape home routines that support health without shame.

  • Deliver culturally responsive, stigma-free care. Approach weight-related care in a clinically direct, culturally responsive, and respectful way that is free of shame.

  • Address weight-related emotional health. Support patients navigating body image, self-esteem, stigma, bullying, anxiety, or mood concerns tied to weight and health.

  • Catch when additional care is needed. Screen for and recognize concerns such as significant anxiety, depression, or disordered eating, and coordinate referrals or escalation when appropriate.

  • Keep records that hold up. Timely, accurate documentation supporting continuity of care, medical necessity, and payer requirements.

What makes this role different
  • Your hours are guaranteed. Most telehealth platforms pay per visit and guarantee nothing. We reserve a weekly block and pay all of it while we fill your schedule.

  • Behavioral health is part of the core care model. You won’t be treating patients in isolation. Behavioral health care is integrated with medical and nutrition treatment.

  • Work with the whole family. Our model recognizes that a child’s health is shaped by family relationships, routines, environment, and caregiver support.

  • Spend less time on non-clinical admin. Credentialing, billing, technology, and care coordination are on us, so you spend time working with patients and families.

  • Deliver longitudinal care. You’ll have the opportunity to build ongoing relationships with families and support meaningful change over time.

Who you are

Minimum Qualifications

  • Independently licensed behavioral health clinician as an LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent

  • Active, unrestricted license in Texas

  • Willing to obtain additional state licenses or practice privileges as needed (Tailwind covers licensing costs)

  • 3+ years providing behavioral health care to children, adolescents, and families

  • Training in at least one relevant evidence-based approach, such as motivational interviewing, CBT, or family-based treatment

  • Experience with pediatric overweight or obesity, or in integrated health settings

  • Experience screening for and addressing disordered eating, emotional eating, and body image concerns in children or adolescents

  • Comfortable conducting telehealth risk assessment and safety planning with children and adolescents, including coordinating local crisis resources when needed

  • Experience and comfort delivering care via telehealth
