Position: Healthcare Customer Service & Patient Access Coordinator (Onsite)

We are seeking an empathetic, detail-oriented Healthcare Customer Service Specialist to join our health plan service delivery team. In this specialized, phone-based role, you will support health plan members by managing inbound/outbound calls, performing service recovery, verifying eligibility context, documenting interactions, and arranging specialized transportation services within our internal ordering system.

This position begins 100% onsite in Downey, CA. Once full operational independence and high-quality work performance are demonstrated, remote work flexibility may be offered in the future.

Position Type

Full-Time Contract (3 to 6-Month Initial Contract with Potential for Extension/Conversion)

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM PST (Subject to minor adjustments based on operational needs)

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care & Call Handling: Answer member inquiries, deliver compassionate customer service, navigate coverage inquiries, and de-escalate complex service issues to ensure positive care outcomes.
  • Clinical & System Documentation: Accurately log, track, and document all telephone interactions, member benefit details, and service notes in real time.
  • Patient Transportation Logistics: Coordinate, set up, and schedule member medical transportation requests utilizing internal health plan ordering platforms.
Qualifications & Core Capabilities
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required;
    Associate or Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or related fields preferred.
  • Healthcare

    Experience:

    Minimum 1 year of call center, patient access, health plan member services, or service recovery experience in a medical setting.
  • System Knowledge:
  • Required:

    Strong computer literacy with the ability to learn internal health plan software quickly.
  • Preferred:
    Prior hands-on experience using Epic EMR or internal health plan member benefit and eligibility systems (e.g., Foundations).
  • Core

    Skills:

    Exceptional phone presence, precise data entry/documentation capabilities, and strong knowledge of healthcare customer service principles.
