Position Overview Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Authorization & Eligibility Coordinator for a fully remote opportunity supporting home health and hospice operations. This role is responsible for verifying patient eligibility and benefits, obtaining and tracking authorizations, communicating with insurance payors, and helping ensure patients can begin and continue receiving care without unnecessary delays. Candidates must reside in New Mexico and have previous home health or hospice experience.
The ideal candidate has approximately 2+ years of healthcare eligibility, benefits verification, insurance verification, or prior authorization experience, including experience with New Mexico Medicaid and VA. Experience with Homecare Homebase (HCHB) is highly preferred.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to admission and throughout services.
- Review coverage requirements and obtain initial and ongoing authorizations for home health and hospice services.
- Submit authorization requests and supporting documentation to insurance payors.
- Track approvals, denials, expirations, extensions, and required follow-up.
- Enter and maintain accurate eligibility, insurance, and authorization information within Homecare Homebase (HCHB) and other systems.
- Communicate with insurance payors to verify benefits, clarify coverage, and resolve authorization issues.
- Work closely with admissions, intake, clinical, branch, and operational teams to ensure requirements are completed.
- Follow up on pending, incomplete, denied, or expired authorizations and escalated issues when appropriate.
- Assist with resolving eligibility discrepancies, coverage issues, and authorization denials.
- Maintain accurate documentation within patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Support additional eligibility, authorization and team projects as needed.
- Approximately 2+ years of healthcare eligibility verification, benefits coordination, insurance verification, or prior authorization experience.
- Previous home health and/or hospice experience required.
- Must currently reside in New Mexico.
- Experience with New Mexico Medicaid and VA.
- Experience working directly with healthcare insurance payors.
- Strong knowledge of eligibility, benefits verification, prior authorization, and payor processes.
- Experience resolving authorization denials, eligibility issues, and coverage discrepancies.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple patients, authorizations, deadlines, and follow-up items.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare software systems.
- Reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace suitable for remote work.
- Previous experience using Homecare Homebase (HCHB).
- Experience supporting eligibility and authorizations within home health or hospice.
- Experience working with payors including:
New Mexico Medicaid VA Blue Cross Blue Shield commercial plans PHCN / Tango Humana. - Experience managing ongoing authorizations for home-based healthcare services.
