This employee works independently. Plans, directs, and implements a variety of assignments to provide and direct the diet and care of prisoners. Provides guidance to food service civilian staff and prisoner food service workers. Works within general methods and procedures and exercises independent judgment to adapt and apply national guidelines to specific situations. The work requires knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations of dietetic and nutritional food service programs.

Performs professional dietitian assignments at the experienced level. Organizes and conducts quality performance improvement audits. Travel is required.

Possession of a bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, or institution management.

Dietitian/Nutritionist 9 No specific type or amount is required.

Dietitian/Nutritionist 10 One year of professional experience providing dietetic and nutritional services equivalent to a Dietitian/Nutritionist 9.

Dietitian/Nutritionist P11 Two years of professional experience providing dietetic and nutritional services equivalent to a Dietitian/Nutritionist, including one year equivalent to a Dietitian/Nutritionist 10.

Dietitian/Nutritionist 9 Eligibility to participate in a dietetic internship, traineeship or coordinated program approved by the American Dietetics Association.

Dietitian/Nutritionist 10-12 Registration as a Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetics Association.

The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
