Minimum Qualifications- For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
- Follow-up payer billing experience. History of successful payor denial appeals.
- Experience with commercial and third-party payors (Including current regulations, time limitations and procedures).
- Knowledge of medical billing/reimbursement Requirements and procedures including government programs, private third-party insurance, and private individuals.
- Ability to analyze and interpret various types of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and Remittance Advice (RA).
- Analytical skills to assess account balances and make determination/decision on further action.
- General knowledge of medical terminology in order to correlate reports to actual charges and to determine the appropriateness of denials.
- Ability to compose effective appeal letters for initial and 2nd level appeals to payers
- General knowledge of credit and collection practices.
- Knowledge of basic accounting practices.
- General knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Insurance Classification of Disease (ICD-10) policies related to medical billing.
- Math skills to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Ability to read and comprehend department policy, internal and external correspondence.
- Writing skills to effectively compose internal and external correspondence.
- Proofreading skills to identify and correct own errors.
- Communication skills to appropriately respond to account inquiries, both in person and over the telephone, and communicate effectively with all internal and external customers.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with employees and Administration.
- Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure in order to meet deadlines established by the department, government programs, or private insurance carriers.
- Ability to be flexible in a quickly changing environment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Keyboarding skills to effectively operate computer terminal and P.C.; prepare internal and external correspondence and forms as required.
- Ability to effectively operate standard office equipment including but not limited to photocopier, scanner, fax, calculator.
- Ability to organize and maintain accurate files on patient financial information.
- Ability to file in alphabetical, numerical, and chronological order.
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Documents and reports clearly and concisely. Conveys instructions, directions and information appropriately. Ability to write effectively and to compose internal and external correspondence.
- Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience or training.
- Two plus years experience in Commercial billing and follow up.
- Solid working experience in Epic Professional Billing Resolute.

Professional Billing Group, a part of the UCDHS Financial Services Division, provides billing and collection services for approximately 900+ UCD Health System Faculty Physicians. This position provides billing and follow-up functions for the CCMC unit within PBG.
