Position: Physical Therapist (Tennessee - Dayton, Oakridge, Henderson)

Job Description

The Physical Therapist (PT) Evaluator - CONTRACTOR is responsible for conducting face-to-face physical therapy evaluations and reevaluations for eligible special education students enrolled in virtual public schools within the STAGES/Stride network in Tennessee. Services are provided in accordance with federal and state special education regulations and are designed to support students' access to and participation in their educational programs. The PT Evaluator collaborates with students, families, educators, related service providers, and multidisciplinary teams to assess physical functioning, mobility, motor development, positioning, and access to educational environments.

Responsibilities include evaluations, records reviews, report writing, and participation in eligibility and IEP team meetings. This position is evaluation-focused and does not routinely provide ongoing direct therapy services. This is an Independent Consultant position (1099). Residency Requirements:
Must reside in the U.S.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct face-to-face physical therapy evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Review educational records, medical documentation, therapy reports, and evaluation data.
  • Assess gross motor skills, functional mobility, positioning, balance, strength, endurance, and educational impact.
  • Determine the need for physical therapy services, accommodations, modifications, and supports.
  • Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports and recommendations.
  • Present evaluation results to multidisciplinary and IEP teams.
  • Participate in eligibility, annual review, reevaluation, and other meetings.
  • Collaborate with families, educators, therapists, and school personnel.
  • Provide consultation regarding mobility, positioning, accessibility, and adaptive equipment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and timely completion of reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and school regulations.
  • Maintain a professional work environment and dependable schedule.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Experience conducting pediatric evaluations and developing recommendations for students with disabilities.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and participating in special education processes.
Certificates and Licenses
  • Current, unrestricted Tennessee Department of Health (TN DOH) Physical Therapist License OR active Physical Therapy Compact Privilege authorization to practice in Tennessee required.
  • Ability to maintain all required licenses, compact privileges, and credentials throughout the duration of the contract.
  • Contractor is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all state licensure, compact privileges, and credentials necessary to provide services in assigned states.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience conducting school-based physical therapy evaluations.
  • Knowledge of IDEA and special education eligibility processes.
  • Strong report writing and clinical documentation skills.
  • Ability to explain evaluation findings to families and educational teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible evaluation schedule.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and web-based documentation systems.
  • Ability to travel throughout assigned service areas in Tennessee.
  • Ability to pass background checks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Requires regular travel to student locations, or other approved sites to conduct face-to-face evaluations. Administrative responsibilities, documentation, records reviews, and virtual meetings may be completed from a professional home office environment. This is an Independent Consultant position (1099) supporting students in Tennessee.

OTHER DUTIES
