Position: Senior Compliance Coordinator - Research Billing Compliance - Patient Financial Services (PFS)

University of Iowa Health Care’s department of Patient Financial Services – Research Billing Compliance is seeking a Senior Compliance Coordinator to promote and support policies and procedures to implement and maintain compliant research billing processes for clinical trials and research studies conducted by University of Iowa research investigators.

This position is eligible to participate in remote work and applicants who wish to work remotely will be considered. Training will be held either ONSITE or via Hybrid (Inhouse/Zoom) from the HSSB building at a length determined by the supervisor. Remote eligibility will be evaluated upon a satisfactory job training opportunity. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Position Responsibilities
  • Develop and support program objectives of the Research Billing Compliance program.
  • Identify and investigate complex issues related to research billing compliance, collaborating with appropriate departments as needed, to identify solutions and implement process improvement.
  • Serve as senior reviewer of research studies, analyze billing compliance risks and provide final determination of Research Billing Compliance oversight needed.
  • Develop department processes and create documents to educate, facilitate, and establish consistency; modify as needed to improve workflow and maximize efficiency.
  • Monitor and audit the workflow of internal and external staff to ensure accuracy and completeness of established processes.
  • Serve as a main department contact for internal and external staff and provide education and guidance as needed.
  • Review and evaluate research billing materials received from research investigators, prepare documents for review and analysis related to research billing compliance. Contact the research study team and/or Principal Investigator as necessary to clarify information in study protocols, consent documents, budgets, etc.
  • Conduct Medicare coverage analyses and develop research billing plans for clinical trials conducted at UI Health Care.
