The Direct Support Professional provides the assistance necessary to meet the supported individual's needs and promote their health, safety, and overall well-being. This support may include helping the individual accomplish activities of daily living including but not limited to eating, toileting, dressing, bathing, transferring, and ambulation, while encouraging as much independence as possible.

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required
• At least 18 years of age
• First Aid/CPR certification
• Completion of TB screening and testing
• Completion of Physical including transportation/transfer addendum
• Safe driving record, current driver's license, personal vehicle, and current motor vehicle liability insurance required, ability to successfully pass criminal background checks

• Communicates effectively with the individual to whom they provide services including his or her family
• Provides assistance with activities of daily living including personal care and nutrition supports and in increasing and/or maintaining their everyday independence within their homes and communities by assisting with light household duties including cooking, laundry and shopping
• Provides transportation as needed or transport individuals in agency vehicle
• Responsible for completion of necessary documentation including time sheet, daily progress notes, incident reports, data tracking, etc., in a timely manner.
• Provides reliable and appropriate service to individuals and their families
• Participates in routine established for the house
• Presents professionally and follows established dress code
• Participate in cross training of houses, as assignments may change due to programmatic need
• Represent The Arc of Bristol County/pro Ability's mission, philosophies and Code of Ethics in a positive and supportive manner within the community and with the individuals and families we support.
• Maintain a positive relationship with the individuals, their families/guardians, as well as other businesses and social service agencies.

The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
