Recreate Behavioral Health Network is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and engaging Telehealth Substance Use & Problem Gambling Counselor to provide remote clinical services to adults receiving outpatient behavioral health treatment in New York and New Jersey.
Applicants must currently hold active licenses and/or credentials that authorize them to provide the assigned clinical services in BOTH New York and New Jersey. Applicants credentialed in only one state will not meet the requirements for this position.
The ideal candidate has experience treating substance use disorders, problem gambling/gambling disorder, and co-occurring behavioral health conditions and is comfortable providing both individual counseling and therapeutic groups through telehealth.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide individual counseling via telehealth to clients located in New York and New Jersey.
- Facilitate clinically appropriate virtual therapy groups addressing substance use disorders, problem gambling/gambling disorder, and related behavioral health concerns.
- Facilitate psycho educational, process-oriented, relapse prevention, coping skills, recovery planning, and skills-based groups.
- Help clients identify gambling triggers, urges, cognitive distortions, high-risk situations, relapse patterns, and behaviors contributing to continued gambling.
- Address substance use triggers, relapse risks, recovery barriers, motivation for change, and development of healthy coping and recovery strategies.
- Incorporate appropriate interventions addressing the financial, relational, family, and emotional consequences associated with problem gambling.
- Conduct individual assessments and develop, review, and update individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor client participation, progress, clinical presentation, risk factors, and barriers to treatment.
- Provide discharge planning, referrals, and linkage to appropriate community and recovery-support resources.
- Utilize evidence-based and best-practice interventions, including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), relapse prevention, harm reduction, and other appropriate therapeutic approaches.
- Adapt clinical interventions to individual needs, readiness for change, stages of recovery, learning styles, and levels of engagement.
- Recognize and appropriately address co-occurring substance use and mental health concerns within professional scope of practice.
- Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries and comply with applicable confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Complete assessments, treatment plans, individual and group progress notes, attendance records, discharge documentation, and other required clinical documentation accurately and within established time frames.
- Maintain documentation consistent with applicable New York OASAS requirements, New Jersey regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards, professional licensing requirements, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Collaborate remotely with Clinical Directors and multidisciplinary treatment teams in New York and New Jersey to coordinate care and support positive treatment outcomes.
- Participate in required clinical supervision, virtual staff meetings, case conferences, training, and professional development.
Dual New York & New Jersey Licensure/Credentialing Required
Candidates must possess the education, training, experience, and active professional credentials necessary to provide assigned telehealth clinical services to clients located in both New York and New Jersey.
Candidates must maintain all applicable licenses, certifications, credentials, and supervision arrangements in active and good standing throughout employment.
