Pharmacy Technician Patient Support Call Center

This role serves as a key non-clinical contact for patients, handling inbound and outbound calls related to prescription status, medication delivery, payment arrangements, and general financial information. You support the pharmacy workflow by ensuring accurate patient profiles, documenting concise progress notes, and coordinating closely with clinical staff to resolve questions and concerns. The position focuses on delivering empathetic, professional customer service while maintaining patient safety and satisfaction within a call center environment.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary resource for inbound telephone calls to minimize workflow interruptions caused by non-clinical customer inquiries, including general prescription status and financial information.
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls to schedule medication deliveries and payments, ensuring accurate information is captured in patient profiles so distribution can send packages in a timely manner.
  • Respond directly to customer inquiries when appropriate and route calls to the appropriate staff to ensure prompt resolution and high customer satisfaction.
  • Update clear and concise progress notes so other team members can quickly assess the status of referrals and continue the workflow efficiently.
  • Use management information systems to provide customer service, including answering questions about refill needs, providing status of pending or shipped prescriptions, verifying insurance information, and supplying copies of invoices upon request.
  • Answer patient questions and concerns during refill scheduling and transfer calls to clinical pharmacists or nurses when clinical input is required.
  • Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to clinicians in accordance with procedures to support patient safety.
  • Maintain a professional telephone manner and demonstrate empathy in all patient interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, recognizing that specific tasks may vary slightly depending on team or program requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Pharmacy experience, preferably as a registered Pharmacy Technician in North Carolina.
  • Prior experience in a call center or high-volume phone-based customer service environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with management information systems for prescription, refill, insurance, and invoice inquiries.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including common office and communication tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills suitable for patient-facing interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to show empathy and patience when speaking with patients.
  • Professional and courteous telephone manner in all interactions.
  • Strong attention to detail when documenting notes, updating profiles, and handling insurance or payment information.
  • Customer service experience, ideally in healthcare, pharmacy, or medical office settings.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology or medical office experience.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician credential in North Carolina is strongly preferred.
  • Medical claims experience is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with medical office operations or clinical environments is beneficial.
  • Ability to learn and work within structured call center metrics and performance standards.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid environment, balancing onsite and remote responsibilities.
  • Adaptability to varying team or program requirements and willingness to perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Environment

This position is based in a hybrid call center and pharmacy support environment in Cary, North Carolina. Training is conducted fully onsite Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for approximately 12 weeks. After successful completion of training and consistent achievement of performance metrics, the permanent schedule runs Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST. At that point, the role transitions to a hybrid model with two days in the office and three days working from home each week.

You will work primarily with management information systems, Microsoft applications, and telephone-based communication tools in a professional office setting. The environment emphasizes accuracy, patient safety, empathy, and strong customer service, with clear performance expectations and structured workflows.
