We have a post – Supervising a team of host/hostess who work within our ward kitchens, ensuring that we provide an excellent food and patient experience. Supervise & support a team with the following.
- Regeneration of chilled/frozen food and preparation of sauces.
- Plating and service of cold and hot food items with meal delivery to patients, including service of condiments.
- Probing and recording food temperatures; recording of equipment temperatures.
- Beverage service to patients – washing and refilling patient water jugs and beakers.
- Take patient orders and communicate requirements to the catering department.
- Ensure rosters are covered; allocate work to catering assistants; liaise with management to maintain service during major staff shortages; prioritize urgent requests; authorize overtime within the allocated budget.
- Carry out staff appraisals; provide a localised catering service observing health, safety and hygiene procedures and maintaining high standards in all aspects.
- Deliver good principles of customer care ensuring helpfulness, awareness and compassion to patients, visitors, staff and colleagues.
- Preparation of patient meal trays.
- Clearing of meal trays, crockery and cutlery for all food areas.
- Collection, segregation and disposal of catering waste materials.
- Cleaning duties within the kitchen and other associated areas in accordance with departmental cleaning schedules to include equipment, work surfaces, crockery and cutlery.
- Ordering and receipt of goods from the main catering production unit in accordance with the agreed stock requirements, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Completion of catering department procedural paperwork such as temperature checks and monitoring.
- Undertake training as required to fulfil this role and any further training which will enhance personal effectiveness and the delivery of high standards of service.
- Work co-operatively with colleagues as part of the team and perform additional duties as and when directed by the catering supervisor.
- Good communication – written, verbal & IT.
- Approachable, organised, reliable.
- Previous catering experience at a supervisory level.
- Previous industrial catering experience; understanding of food hygiene importance.
- Health and safety basic knowledge.
- Knowledge of cash handling and till systems; excellent communication skills.
- Basic data inputting either manually or using a computer/tablet.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational skills; willingness to work flexibly and at other sites when required.
- Ability and willingness to undertake further training as necessary;
Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate. - ILM certificate NVQ 3 in catering subject/equivalent.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of normal duties and is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020; a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions is required. Good communication (written, verbal & IT) is essential.

Under current Home Office Immigration Rules we are unable to offer right‑to‑work visa sponsorship for Band 2 and 3 roles with a salary of less than £25,000 pa. The Trust requires DBS clearance; the cost of DBS application will be recovered via salary deduction. Applicants are welcome from those aged 18 or over (or within 3 months of 18th birthday).
