Genesys is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Counsel to provide practical, business-focused legal advice regarding a wide range of employment and labor matters on a global basis.  This role partners closely with HR and Compliance to mitigate risk and support a fair and inclusive workplace.  The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house role.

The Labor and Employment Counsel will work closely with global Legal and Human Resources teams and cross-functional business partners. This will be a remote role. The successful candidate will report directly to the Genesys Senior Labor and Employment Counsel.
** Responsibilities:
** The Labor and Employment Counsel is expected to provide legal advice on labor and employment related litigation, laws, regulations, rules, and orders for the Company (with its headquarters in California) on a global basis. The successful candidate will be able to provide day-to-day advice to assist the Company in managing and mitigating labor and employment risks, and will include the following responsibilities:
* Serve as a subject matter expert for employment matters globally.
* Partner closely with Human Resources and People Leaders to provide day-to-day legal guidance regarding the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management, employee relations, leaves of absence, accommodations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
* Collaborate with Talent Acquisition on hiring practices, offer letters, background checks, onboarding issues, and contingent workforce considerations.
* Draft, review, and negotiate separation, severance, and release agreements in connection with individual terminations, reorganizations, and reductions in force.
* Partner with Human Resources to train managers and HR professionals on employment law topics, policy interpretation, and best practices to reduce risk and promote consistency.
* Manage and oversee employment-related litigation, agency charges, audits, and investigations (including EEOC, DOL, and state agencies) in coordination with the Litigation team and outside counsel.
* Conduct and/or oversee internal investigations and advise on appropriate remedial action.
* Support merger and acquisition transactions and related integration of employees.

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting employment-related investigations, conducting witness interviews, drafting pleadings and motion practice, overseeing settlement negotiations, and participating in hearings, mediations, and alternative dispute proceedings, as well as managing outside counsel on employment litigation matters.

*** The candidate must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
* The candidate must have at least 8 years of experience practicing employment law, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience.
* The position requires a confident attorney with demonstrated experience managing a broad range of legal issues and interacting closely with business leaders.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, with sound judgment, diplomacy, and discretion when handling sensitive or high-stakes issues; demonstrated ability to think both creatively and strategically.
