The Benefits Manager manages the day-to-day activities of the Benefits function and HR team. The Benefits Manager is responsible for overseeing the company benefits package and programs including health and welfare plans (medical, dental, vision, as well as benefits in the event of sickness, accident, disability, death, or unemployment) and defined contribution and non-qualified retirement plans. He/she, under the supervision of the VP of HR, will educate employees and communicate benefits offerings, mediate and resolve benefit related issues between benefits providers and employees, manage the monthly billing of vendors, implement new benefit programs for employees, assist the VP of HR in assessment of plan modifications to ensure programs are current, competitive, and in compliance with legal requirements, and maintain state and federal compliance records.
In addition, this role participates in the recruiting, hiring, and training of new employees and approves timecards, administers performance reviews, and applies disciplinary measures as appropriate, all while coaching and developing their employees to be successful at Chadwell Supply.
- A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or other relevant field.
- 5-10 years of benefits experience.
- Advanced verbal and written English language skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and MS Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Supervise the administration of the employee benefits package offered by Chadwell Supply including retirement, medical, dental, vision and all other ancillary plans.
- Manage employee benefits through the HRIS to include annual open enrollments and new enrollments for all benefit plans.
- Manage the year-end process for retirement plans, including plan auditing, plan testing, and the creation of the Form 5500 for filing as well as the creation of employee annual statements and plan performance communications.
- Educate employees and communicate benefit offerings including preparing supplemental materials and documentation.
- Handle inquiries to ensure quick, courteous resolution for employees.
- Assist employees in the processing of claims for ancillary benefits to include disability and life insurance claims.
- Create clear channels of communication between Chadwell Supply and vendors of benefits and third party administrators of plans.
- Provide employees with plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and access to relevant insurance websites.
- Assist the VP of HR in evaluating and improving existing benefits with suggestions of modifications to support a competitive package to meet employee needs while mitigating the impact to the company's financial position.
- Act as Administrator for the Chadwell Cares Scholarship Program.
- Oversee the Marketplace Chaplain program.
- Manage the employee service awards program with Benefits Assistant.
- Handle all aspects of FMLA leave administration, including accepting leave requests, correctly applying FMLA provisions, approving leaves, providing eligible employees with the Eligibility Notice, the Rights and Responsibilities Notice, the Designation Notice and the Certification of Healthcare Provider form, monitoring the leave process including the leave start and end periods and return to work requirements if appropriate.
