Under the general supervision of the Payroll Manager, the DWIHN Payroll Specialist will assist with DWIHN payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates with Human Resources and Finance to verify employee data and accounts.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Analyzes various documents for accuracy, including payroll previews, quarterly tax reports and W-2's.
  • Establishes and maintains communication for the accurate and timely processing of payroll.
  • Assists employees with payroll issues, answering questions and solving problems.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies.
  • Reviews and reconciles timecards to ensure the information is accurate and consistent with actual hours worked.
  • Maintains accurate and organized payroll records.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, departmental transfers, promotions, and changes in pay rates.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and Local payroll, wage, and hour laws.
  • Accounts for all travel reimbursements, determining whether requests are in compliance with DWIHN's Travel Policy and whether the reimbursement amounts are based on the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) published rates.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of payroll administration.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws as they relate to employment practices.
  • Knowledge of human resource practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Proficient with payroll software.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities; detail oriented.
  • Ability to analyze payroll information and process accurately.
  • Ability to make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to meet sensitive deadlines; time management skills.
  • Maintains a highly confidential environment.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite - specifically Excel.
  • Ability to communicate orally.
  • Ability to communicate in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to work with an ethnically, linguistically, culturally, economically. and socially diverse population.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:

A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years of full-time paid professional experience performing payroll functions for an organization of at least 100+ employees.

Experience with payroll software (ADP Preferred).

PLEASE NOTE:
Experience may be substituted for required education on a year for year basis.


REQUIRED LICENSE(S).

A valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a safe and acceptable driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is usually performed in an office setting. Currently this position is primarily a remote position, however on some occasions in person is requested.
