This is a part-time hybrid role for a Human Resources Generalist, based in Norfolk, VA, with work-from-home opportunities. The HR Generalist will handle a variety of day-to-day responsibilities, including developing and implementing HR policies, managing employee relations, overseeing benefits administration, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations. The role will also involve supporting the company’s talent acquisition, retention initiatives, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
Qualifications- Proficiency in Human Resources (HR) and HR Management, with a strong understanding of HR best practices.
- Experience in creating, implementing, and updating HR Policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Employee Benefits and Benefits Administration processes.
- Familiarity with employment laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Certification in HR (e.g., PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP) is a plus.
- Gusto Administration:Manage the full Gusto ecosystem, relating to HR but no payroll processing responsibilities.
- Onboarding & Compliance:Use Gusto’s onboarding tools to streamline new-hire paperwork (I-9s, W-4s) and ensure we stay compliant with all state and federal labor laws.
- Benefits Oversight:Administer company benefits (health, 401k, etc.) directly through the Benefits portal, acting as the primary contact for employee questions.
- Talent Acquisition:Own the hiring process—writing job ads, screening resumes, and coordinating interviews to find the right cultural fits.
- Employee Relations:Serve as a trusted advisor for the team, managing performance reviews and resolving any workplace issues with a high degree of confidentiality.
- HR Strategy:Utilize the Gusto software to update our employee handbook and implement best-in-class HR policies.
- Software: Required proficiency in Gusto. You must be comfortable navigating its payroll, benefits, and HR features independently.
- Experience: 3+ years of HR experience; a “department of one” or small business experience is a major plus.
- Expertise: Solid understanding of employment law and payroll regulations.
- Traits: Highly organized, tech-savvy, and able to work independently.
Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia remote but must live in Hampton Roads
Hours: 15–20 hours per week
Compensation: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour (Commensurate with experience)
