What You'll Do

As IOE's Human Resource Generalist, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of policies and procedures covering most areas of human resources. You will work closely with the Department Administrator, the Research Administration team, and the Executive Assistant on HR processes and transactions, immigration processes, faculty casebooks, and other HR-related tasks. The HR Generalist reports directly to the Department Administrator.

In this role, you will

  • Develop and implement HR policies and resources in collaboration with Department Administrator.
  • Manage completion of casebooks for faculty tenure and promotion, reappointment, and lecturer reviews.
  • Assist with evaluating applications and candidates for staff positions.
  • Post new job positions and process all non-student HR appointments, including staff, faculty, lecturer, research fellows, and non-student temporary employees.
  • Process a variety of PAR transactions, including appointment changes, leaves, terminations, additional pay, and other job changes.
  • Initiate all immigration processes for visitors, research fellows and faculty hires.
  • Manage timekeeping for all staff and non-student temps.
  • Manage the annual faculty activity report process.
  • Support Department's award and recognition processes.
  • Manage other projects as assigned by the Department Administrator.

Required Qualifications *
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years working in a human resources or related area, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Experience handling confidential information.
  • Experience with best practices for inclusive hiring.
Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience with FMLA, ADA, HIPPA, FERPA, and other HR policies
  • Experience working with faculty affairs (promotion/tenure, appointments, casebooks, etc.)
  • Experience working with MPathways systems, Business Objects, People Pay, and Smart Path
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan's policies and procedures
  • Society of Human Resources Management Certification
