Overview
The Michigan Supreme Court is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Human Resources Generalist. Reporting to the Human Resource Director, the Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as primary contact and resource for Judiciary employees and managers. Provides a full range of centralized, comprehensive human resource services related to employment including, but not limited to:
Hiring and retention, onboarding, benefits, performance management, payroll processing and records management, employee and employer relations, and training for the Michigan Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and State Court Administrative Office. Serve as a liaison to other state departments, Employee Benefits, Office of State Employer, and the Office of Retirement Services to stay informed on changes and updates that impact the Courts.
Serve as liaison to employees of the Michigan Supreme Court, State Court Administrative Office, Michigan Court of Appeals and other judicial branch agencies. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Leads compensation and classification process. Supports directors by gathering compensation data and classification information to directors.
- Assist directors in addressing compensation and classification issues.
- Coordinates programming adjustments to SIGMA and NEOGOV to reflect changes in Judiciary employment policy.
- Responsible for compliance with state employment record retention requirements.
- Serve as a payroll and employment resource to Justices, Judges, managers and Court staff;
Answer questions and serve as liaison between judiciary and HR-related administrators. - Lead the employment processes, including the hiring and selection process, developing and conducting new employee orientation, counseling employees on benefits and other terms and conditions of employment with the Court, responding to employee questions related to federal and state employment law, assisting with payroll issues, and providing pertinent information at time of separation/retirement.
- Provide coaching and guidance to employees and managers.
- Implement and manage the performance communication process.
- Monitor and assist with leaves of absence and other payroll issues associated with leave.
- Assist staff on the use of HR-related software and systems.
- Provide annual reporting information regarding judiciary staff.
- Oversee the records retention process.
- Lead annual projects in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager.
- Assist with processing employee payroll hours and monitor timekeeping function.
- Perform calculations for payroll processing, including longevity, cost of living increases, and other salary-related events as approved by the Court.
- Assist with employee benefits programs and work with state benefit administrators on more unusual or complex issues.
- Serve as the ADA coordinator and attend meetings and training.
- Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business or public administration.
ExperienceA minimum of 10 years of experience with responsibility for personnel and benefits administration and working knowledge of employment law. Extensive human resources experience with the ability to operate as a senior level HR professional across all functional areas of HR is preferred.
Knowledge- State and Federal employment laws and regulations such as ADA, FLSA, FMLA, Title VII, Elliot-Larsen, Bullard Plawecki, etc.

- Establish and maintain good working relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external constituents.

- Present to or train varied audiences.
- Prioritize, lead, and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Operate in a fast-paced environment where priorities may be affected by outside influences such as legislative or regulatory changes.
Official work-site location is the Hall of Justice. Remote work may be available in accordance with the MSC/SCAO Remote Work Policy. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan on or before their first day of employment.
