Position Summary
JVS/Mass Hire is seeking a Career Navigator to deliver innovative, customer-focused workforce development services at the Mass Hire Downtown Boston Career Center. The Career Navigator, in collaboration with the Career Center team, will assist job seekers from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience to conduct successful job searches and obtain employment.
The Career Navigator’s primary responsibilities include:
- Providing personalized 1:1 career coaching virtually, onsite at Mass Hire Downtown Boston’s office and offsite at partner locations in the Boston region as required.
- Leading job search webinars and workshops on topics such as career exploration, networking, resumes, cover letters, Linked In, interviewing, negotiation, and more.
- Assisting customers in the Career Resource Center with membership registration, job search strategies, and accessing Career Center resources and services.
- Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to connecting with employers and completing administrative tasks for the Career Center.
This is a hybrid position that requires both onsite work at 75 Federal Street, Boston, MA, offsite work at partner locations in the Boston region, and remote work from home.
Essential Job FunctionsCareer
Coaching:
- Conduct individualized coaching sessions for clients with diverse backgrounds.
- Advise clients on all aspects of the job search process including career exploration, networking, resumes, cover letters, Linked In, interviewing, negotiation, and more.
- Assist clients in navigating and overcoming employment barriers.
- Empower clients to articulate their unique skills and value proposition.
- Equip clients with the knowledge and resources to effectively stand out to potential employers.
- Collaborate with clients to establish tangible, actionable goals for their job search.
- Accurately identify clients’ needs and direct them to the appropriate resources.
- Maintain accurate notes and records in the MOSES database and internal Excel spreadsheets.
Webinar / Workshop Presentations:
- Co‑lead job search webinars and workshops on topics such as career exploration, networking, resumes, cover letters, Linked In, interviewing, negotiation, and more.
- Facilitate workshops with expertise and professionalism using adult education methodologies that employ engaging facilitation techniques, whether in‑person or through virtual platforms, and leverage technology to foster maximum participant interaction and learning.
Career Resource Center:
- Register new members by facilitating the intake process and introducing them to available career center resources.
- Support customers’ job search efforts by providing direct guidance on applications, resume formatting, and search strategies.
- Provide technical assistance for computer navigation, including help with internet usage, file management, and office equipment.
- Triage and direct customers to the appropriate workshops, staff members, and specialized services based on their needs.
- Manage Resource Center operations, including monitoring computer lab usage and performing basic administrative tasks.
Other Duties (as assigned):
- Collaborate with partner agencies to integrate career services into their programs.
- Perform general administrative tasks and special projects as requested by management to support daily Career Center operations and overall efficiency of the Career Center.
- Build relationships with employers, training providers, and partner organizations to support employment and training opportunities for customers.
Relationship‑Building, Collaboration, and Teamwork:
- Charismatic and skilled at fostering strong relationships with clients, team members, employers, and community‑based organizations while maintaining these relationships over time.
- Actively promote the mission and philosophy of JVS/Mass Hire, both within the agency and in the community.
- Collaborate as a vital member of the JVS and Mass Hire team to deliver high‑quality workforce development services.
- Engage in a team environment; establish and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders, including participants, colleagues, partner organizations, and funders.
