Job Description & How to Apply Below
Care Initiatives is seeking a Regional Director of Human Resources to join our Human Resources team. As the largest single operator of quality nursing homes in Iowa, Care Initiatives has over forty (40) skilled nursing communities, nine (9) hospice offices (and growing!), plus our own internal staffing agency. We are committed to providing exceptional care and support at every stage of the healthcare journey.

The Regional Director of Human Resources provides strategic and operational HR leadership across an assigned region, supporting facility leadership through consultation and business partnership. This role partners closely with Regional Directors of Operations and building leadership to ensure consistent application of HR practices, regulatory compliance, and effective people management.

The territory of this position is the western region of Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska.

What You'll Do &

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain a consistent onsite and remote presence across 14-17 assigned facilities, including a minimum visit cadence of every 45-60 days per building, with increased presence for crisis or high-risk locations.
Partner with the Regional Director of Operations (RDO) to plan weekly schedules, balancing proactive initiatives with surveys, investigations, and compliance needs.
Conduct purposeful onsite visits focused on staff engagement, leadership collaboration, and just-in-time support rather than routine meeting attendance.
Serve as an advisor to facility leadership on employee relations matters, investigations, corrective action, and risk management.
Act as lead investigator for employee relations matters involving Administrators, Directors, or when requested by senior leadership.
Provide guidance and oversight for compliance line investigations assigned to HR.
Review Performance Success Plans (PSPs), terminations, and select disciplinary actions per regional standards.
Support and standardize onboarding for Administrators, DONs, BOMs, and BPMs through education, resource navigation, and partnership planning.
Participate in mock surveys and regulatory activities as determined by regional priorities and RDO direction.
Conduct targeted compliance audits, including personnel files, I-9s, licensure, training, and HR-related survey readiness items.
Deliver micro-learning, training, and leadership education to reduce dependency on HR for routine people management.
Provide time-bound, focused support to buildings in crisis in alignment with regional leadership.
Contribute as an active member of the HR leadership team, partnering with home office and regional HR colleagues on cross-functional initiatives, enterprise projects, policy development, and continuous improvement efforts that advance organizational priorities and strengthen HR service delivery.
Operate in a hybrid work model, working remotely up to two days per week and spending the remainder of the week engaging in day travel to assigned facilities to provide onsite HR support, leadership consultation, and compliance oversight.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field required, Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible HR experience, including employee relations, compliance, and leadership advisory support.
Prior multi-site, regional, or healthcare/skilled nursing experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience partnering with operational leaders in a consultative role.
Advanced-level knowledge of federal, state, and local labor and employment laws, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legal requirements in complex, multi-site environments.
Proven track record of ensuring compliance, assessing risk, advising operational leaders, and partnering effectively with legal counsel to mitigate exposure and support sound business decisions.
Advanced expertise in employee relations strategy and execution, including leading and overseeing complex investigations, advising leaders through corrective action and progressive discipline, and ensuring consistent, defensible outcomes.

Experience with onboarding, leadership development, and adult learning principles.
Understanding of regulatory and survey-related HR requirements in a healthcare environment.
