Human Resources Coordinator Positions
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) is seeking two qualified Human Resources professionals to provide customer service in a fast paced HR office for employees across the state of Maryland. Both positions will be based in Cambridge, MD but will have scheduled travel days to other UMCES units within Maryland for onboarding and other HR meeting needs. Once fully trained, these positions have a hybrid opportunity for in-person and remote work.
The HR Coordinators will be responsible for responding to inquiries across a wide range of human resources functions including benefits, recruitment, HR transactions, and general HR policies and procedures.
Duties may include:
- Working with supervisors to create job postings
- Participation in search committees to serve as the recruiter (to handle setting up interviews, offer negotiations, offer letters, any pre-offer screening, follow-up emails to unsuccessful candidates, etc.)
- Conducting orientations/onboarding in-person at unit of new hire
- Provide customer service to employees regarding employment requests, benefits questions, etc.)
- Assistance in tracking HR compliance trainings
- Helping supervisors for disciplinary matters using State of MD, USM and UMCES policies
- Works closely with business office for each unit to align payroll actions
- Assists with Worker's Compensation claims management
- Some HR reporting using Workday, Power Bi, and any other software needed
- Daily transactions in Workday, mostly as a Central HR user
- Benefits Management/Troubleshooting
- Management of Tuition Remission
- Designated FMLA Administrator
Minimum Qualifications:
Successful candidates are required to have a Bachelor's Degree in HR, business or related field with at least 2-3 years of experience in human resources. SHRM Certification or HRCI certification required within 6 months of hire. Success in this role will require the ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate and understand complex systems, communicate clearly and empathetically (verbally and written), adapt quickly to changes, and provide accurate and timely support.
It is required to have working knowledge of HR principles, practices and procedures. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills along with strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Strong Excel experience is a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous USM or State of Maryland Human Resources experience is a plus. Maryland ABC and MD State Retirement Coordinator Certification is also a plus. Experience with Workday is preferred.
Physical Demands:
This position requires traveling across the State of Maryland to UMCES units for regular meetings with employees to include interviews, new hire orientations, trainings, retirement counseling, employee meetings, etc. UMCES has locations in Cambridge, Baltimore, College Park, Solomons, Frostburg and Annapolis, Maryland.
Additional Information:
There are two HR Coordinator positions available. Specific HR duties will depend on the actual position offered. Target start date for positions is late summer.
