Lead Legal Counsel, Employment – Dexcom Corporation
Lead Legal Counsel responsible for employment law across the North America region, reporting to the Vice President, Employment, Corporate Governance & Privacy. Supports human resources and business partners, coordinates investigations, evaluates legal risks, and provides subject‑matter expertise on a broad range of labor and employment issues.
Responsibilities- Partner with Human Resources and business partners to provide day‑to‑day counseling and supervision of investigations.
- Evaluate legal risks and provide guidance on recruiting, hiring, training, employee management, complex leaves of absence, and HR best practices.
- Develop, update, and implement employment policies and programs (hiring practices, performance management, employee relations, internal investigations, terminations, leaves of absence, accommodations, compensation, and benefits).
- Generate and deliver training on HR and employment law topics in collaboration with HR.
- Manage pre‑litigation and litigation disputes related to employment matters, including preparing litigation holds and document gathering.
- Provide strategic, business‑oriented employment law guidance for a global organization and coordinate use of outside counsel.
- Minimum of 8 years of related employment law experience at a top‑tier law firm and/or in‑house legal department (preferred).
- Comfortable presenting to, counseling, and interacting with Human Resources and business leaders.
- Recognized expert in employment law within the organization.
- Strong teamwork, relationship building, and communication with business partners and stakeholders.
- Excellent decision‑making skills, practical business judgement, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in person in the San Diego office as required; local within 75 miles strongly preferred.
