Position: Casual Applicant Pool

Carleton University invites external candidates and existing casual employees to apply for our Casual Applicant Pool. This pool supports temporary assignments that may become available from time‑to‑time. A casual employee is hired to a temporary assignment no longer than 12 months. For clerical, technical, and administrative casual assignments, after two months of continuous employment working more than 24 hours per week, the employee becomes eligible for inclusion in CUPE Local 2424.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities vary by position. Most assignments in the Casual Pool are administrative; however, from time to time, specialized skills are required in the following areas:

  • Accounting / Bookkeeping
  • Finance
  • Event Planning / Coordination
  • Information Technology
  • Website Development / Design
  • Communications / Social Media
  • Human Resources
  • Payroll
Qualifications

In addition to experience in one or more of the fields above, the incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships while working collaboratively to achieve identified goals and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively deliver quality products and services by demonstrating prioritization, planning, and organizational skills, and a commitment to quality and efficiency.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of Banner, FAST, and Access/databases is an asset.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, demonstrating judgment and decision‑making skills to deal with competing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, multitasking, and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to create, edit, and format correspondence and various documents.
Education and Experience

These qualifications are normally acquired through the completion of a post‑secondary college/university degree, training, or an equivalent and two or more years of work experience in one or more of the fields below:

  • Accounting / Bookkeeping
  • Finance
  • Event Planning / Coordination
  • Information Technology
  • Website Development / Design
  • Communications / Social Media
  • Human Resources
  • Payroll

Experience in an educational environment is an asset.
