- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training with AP practices, laws, regulations, and policies.
- Experience performing the full range of academic personnel functions including policy interpretation in a higher education setting; merit and promotion; recruitment, selection and retention; classification and compensation administration; and employee and labor relations.
- Experience in coordinating personnel appointments of senate and non-senate academics (postdocs, graduate students, visitors).
- Experience maintaining a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy.
- Knowledge of payroll matters and demonstrated experience/ability to use Mathematical skills to perform payroll and general accounting calculations.
- Critical thinking and applied problem-solving skills to research and analyze complex policy and/or problems related to academic personnel in an objective manner.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and others and communication skills - writing and verbal.
- Knowledge of correct spelling, grammar, and excellent proofreading skills.

The Departments of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering consists of two department chairs, 37 faculty, 140 non-senate academic employees of varying titles (Professional Researchers, Graduate Student Researchers, Teaching Assistants, Visiting Scholars, Postdoctoral Scholars, Adjunct
- Professors, unit 18 Lecturers), and 11 administrative and technical employees. The Departments have ~700 undergraduate students enrolled in three majors and 130 graduate students in two graduate programs. Materials Science and Engineering also has a large self-supporting unit, Central Facility, with equipment utilized by over 100 users from across campus and externally. The current expenses for instruction and research top $12M/annum.
The Department occupies over 52,000 ASF.
