Job Profile

Under the general direction of the Manager of Corporate HR Programs & Policy, the Coordinator of Compensation & Classification is responsible for a full range of activities related to City of Winnipeg compensation and classification programs. This position will provide operational leadership to compensation and classification branch staff in the coordination of corporate wide compensation, job evaluation, and related activities within the context of the organizations compensation policy and associated administrative directives and ensures that all positions are rated based on relativity, consistency and reasonableness.

Specifically, this position will manage and lead complex job evaluations, lead and manage compensation & classification appeals and grievances and will work/collaborate with various bargaining units; while ensuring that the City's interests are represented at all times. This position will collect data/metrics, monitor trends for patterns, opportunities and deficiencies and will proactively identify and makes changes necessary to improve overall compensation programs, processes and reviews.

The Coordinator Of Compensation & Classification, You Will
  • Provide overall leadership in the design and evaluation of compensation processes and systems for the organization.
  • Provide oversight, and supervision to the Compensation and Classification team. Ensures that Compensation and Classification team is appropriately and properly evaluating positions and assigning appropriate ratings in accordance with the applicable job evaluation method. Sets annual goals, service level goals/performance measurements, coordinates workload, and project responsibilities for staff.
  • Lead job evaluations to maintain internal relativity and equity, align to organizational compensation philosophy, encompass compensation principles, and promote integrity and consistency throughout the organization.
  • Support the City's interests in classification appeals and grievances related to job evaluation and compensation issues. Acts as the primary contact with bargaining units and ensures that departmental HR and/or management are providing requested information/documentation in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with City unions/associations executives and representatives, employees and other levels of government. Incorporates industry best practices into existing compensation systems, processes, and programs.
