Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Human Resources Generalist based in Gilbert, AZ, with flexibility for some work-from-home arrangements. The Human Resources Generalist will oversee and support core HR functions across recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, performance management, and HR operations.

Role Summary

This role will serve as a key partner to leadership and employees, helping to build scalable HR processes, strengthen company culture, maintain compliance, and support talent growth across the organization. The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly organized, operationally strong, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced fintech startup environment.

Core Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Own the end-to-end recruitment process, including sourcing, screening, interview coordination, offer management, and onboarding across all departments.
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions, postings, recruiting workflows, and candidate pipelines.
  • Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and improve recruiting efficiency.
  • Coordinate onboarding processes to ensure new hires are successfully integrated into the organization.
  • Maintain recruiting metrics, hiring reports, and candidate tracking systems.
Employee Relations & Engagement
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers regarding workplace issues, policies, and HR practices.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable workplace culture aligned with Ionia Pay’s mission and values.
  • Organize employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, team-building activities, and employee feedback surveys.
  • Assist leadership with performance conversations, coaching guidance, and corrective action documentation when needed.
Compliance & Policy Management
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including Arizona labor laws, wage and hour requirements, ADA, EEOC, FMLA, and related employment standards.
  • Draft, maintain, and enforce employee handbooks, HR policies, procedures, and internal documentation.
  • Support HR-related documentation and evidence collection for SOC 2, PCI DSS, and other internal or external audits.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential employee records and personnel documentation.
Compensation, Benefits & Payroll Administration
  • Administer employee benefits programs and support annual enrollment activities.
  • Coordinate payroll administration activities and maintain accurate employee compensation records.
  • Partner with CFO on compensation benchmarking, merit increases, bonus administration, and equity-related tracking.
  • Respond to employee questions related to payroll, benefits, policies, and HR programs.
Performance Management & Employee Development
  • Implement and maintain performance management processes, including reviews, check-ins, and goal tracking.
  • Assist managers in setting clear performance expectations and documenting employee development plans.
  • Coordinate training programs, professional development initiatives, and onboarding education.
  • Support leadership development and employee retention initiatives as the organization scales.
HR Operations & Systems
  • Select, implement, and manage HRIS and applicant tracking systems as the company grows.
  • Maintain employee records, reporting, organizational charts, and headcount analytics.
  • Create scalable HR processes, SOPs, templates, and internal workflows to support rapid organizational growth.
  • Generate HR reporting and metrics for executive leadership, including hiring trends, turnover, engagement, and workforce planning data.
Cross-Functional Partnership
