Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Responsibilities
- Provide client support on HR matters including wage and hour, leaves of absence, worker’s compensation, and employee relations.
- Consult on compliance with state and federal leave laws and payroll compliance.
- Interpret client contracts and manage billable work, track and report time accurately.
- Identify supplemental services and opportunities for additional billable work.
- Act as primary contact for clients and their employees to answer questions regarding policy, benefits, and payroll compliance.
- Advise internal and external management of potential problem areas and recommend or implement solutions.
- Manage critical relationships with client representatives, employees, management, and vendors to ensure client satisfaction.
- Conduct HR assessments and prepare reports for client presentations.
- Monitor the Compliance Department email box, respond to inquiries promptly, determine priorities, and escalates sensitive matters when needed.
- Resolve issues independently, ensuring proper organization and documentation of electronic communication.
- Develop, prepare, and conduct training content for webinars (original and updated).
- Perform other duties as assigned, including maintaining professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and society participation.
- Travel locally and occasionally overnight may be required.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for visa or residency sponsorship.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills with meticulous attention to grammar, punctuation, and detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Capability to manage multiple email inboxes and maintain organized electronic communication.
- Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to learn HRIS, benefit, and payroll systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field.
- Advanced degree is a plus but not required.
- Eight to ten years of professional HR experience with a focus on employment‑related compliance.
- Advanced knowledge of state and federal regulations (COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, PDL, PFL, CFRA, ADA, ACA).
- HR certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, or SHRM‑SCP preferred.
- Communicates effectively and sensitively within a diverse workforce.
- Manages multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Provides training activities and creates training curricula.
- Translates benefit designs and plans to employees and management.
- Performs basic financial calculations, projections, and summaries.
- Adapts quickly to change and manages new challenges.
Base pay range: $45 to $60 per hour, depending on skills, education, experience, and location. Eligible for variable compensation, commission, and/or annual bonus based on performance.
