Human Resources Generalist

Title: Human Resources Generalist

Reports To: Associate Director of Human Resources

Schedule: Mon-Fri, Daytime Flexible. Some night and weekend occasional event work.

Compensation: $26 - $28 per hour

Position Overview:

The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Human Resources department through recruitment, onboarding, employee record management, benefits administration, compliance support, and HR-related administrative functions. This position serves as a primary point of contact for applicants and employees and helps ensure an efficient, positive employee experience throughout the employment lifecycle. The ideal candidate is self-directed, organized, positive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Position Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Coordinate full-cycle recruitment activities including posting positions, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, conducting initial candidate screens, and preparing hiring documentation.
  • Coordinate background checks, employment verifications, and other pre-employment requirements.
  • Prepare offer letters and onboarding materials.
  • Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding processes.
  • Track and meet recruiting metrics and maintain applicant tracking records.
  • Participate in job fairs and recruitment events as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential personnel and recruitment files.
Employee Records & HR Administration
  • Process employee lifecycle transactions including hires, transfers, promotions, status changes, leaves of absence, and separations.
  • Maintain employee records, personnel files, and HRIS data with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Prepare employment verification requests and HR correspondence.
  • Conduct periodic audits of personnel files and HR records.
  • Assist employees with HR-related questions and requests.
Benefits, Leave Administration & Payroll Support
  • Support enrollment and administration of employee benefit programs.
  • Assist employees with benefit-related questions and leave requests.
  • Coordinate leave administration and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare and process payroll-related employment changes and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure accurate employee information is maintained in payroll and HR systems.
Employee Relations Support
  • Support employee engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Union Environment Support
  • Support HR leadership in maintaining positive labor-management relationships.
  • Assist with documentation and administrative activities related to collective bargaining agreement processes.
  • Ensure compliance with established labor policies and procedures.
Workers' Compensation & Safety Administration
  • Assist with workers' compensation claims and maintain required documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison between the HR Associate Director, employees, supervisors, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Monitor claim activity and ensure timely reporting and follow-up.
  • Lead safety committee meetings, setting agendas and execute safety initiatives.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Assist with compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain required employment documentation including I-9 records.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for audits, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support implementation and communication of HR policies and procedures.
General HR Operations
  • Maintain HR systems, databases, and tracking tools.
  • Assist with special projects and departmental initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule & Location

This is an in-office position, with flexibility for occasional remote work or adjustments to daily schedule as operational needs allow.

Core working hours fall between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with flexibility in start and end times.

Required Qualifications:

Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of Human Resources experience, with demonstrated experience in recruiting, onboarding, employee records management, and HR administration preferred.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, housing, healthcare, or human services environment preferred.
  • Experience working in a union environment preferred but not required.
