Position Overview:

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the Human Resources department, with a primary focus on onboarding, benefits administration, compliance reporting, and coordination of Learning and Performance Management. This position also serves as a backup resource for recruiting activities and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the HR function by assisting in a variety of HR initiatives and employee support programs.

Essential Functions:

Onboarding & Employee Integration

  • Coordinate and facilitate the new hire onboarding process, including preparing offer letters, background checks, I-9 verification, orientation schedules, and benefits enrollment.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for new hires, ensuring a smooth and positive onboarding experience.
  • Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system.

Benefits Administration

  • Assist with annual open enrollment, benefit plan audits, and benefits communications.
  • Process qualifying life events and coordinate COBRA administration as needed.
  • Respond to routine benefit questions.

HR Operations & Administration

  • Maintain personnel files and HRIS records to support accurate and complete employee data.
  • Process transfers, promotions, compensation changes, supervisor changes, leaves, and separations.
  • Prepare routine HR letters, employment confirmations, notices, reports, and employee documentation.
  • Support HR audits, record retention, reporting needs, and maintenance of HR forms and templates.

Employee Relations & Team Member Support

  • Respond to day-to-day employee questions regarding policies, procedures, benefits, time away, HR processes, and general employment matters.
  • Provide guidance on routine HR processes and elevate sensitive or complex employee relations matters to HR leadership as appropriate.
  • Support managers with documentation and employee communication related to attendance, performance, conduct, and workplace expectations.
  • Assist with employee separations, including documentation, benefits information, process coordination, and return-of-property follow-up.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling employee information and HR matters.

Compliance & Recordkeeping

  • Help ensure HR records and practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements.
  • Support I-9, personnel file, benefit, and other routine HR audits.
  • Assist with policy communications, required notices, and record retention activities.
  • Protect confidential employee data and follow company standards for records hand.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Approximately 2-5 years of general Human Resources experience preferred, with exposure to multiple HR functions.
  • Experience supporting a multi-state, construction, field-based, or rapidly growing workforce is helpful but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of common HR practices, employee lifecycle processes, benefits administration, and employment documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail when processing employee information and maintaining records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a service-oriented approach to employee support.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with HR, payroll, recruiting, managers, and employees.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with ADP Workforce Now or another HRIS is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of in-office and remote work (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
  • General work environment sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
