Position Overview:
The Greater Memphis Local Workforce Development Board (GMLWDB) is seeking a college intern to support our Business Services team.
This team plays a crucial role in assisting dislocated workers—individuals who have lost their jobs—by connecting them to new employment opportunities and supporting businesses in meeting their workforce needs.
The intern will gain hands-on experience in workforce development, employer engagement, and job placement services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in researching and identifying current job openings and in-demand occupations in the Memphis area.
- Support the coordination and delivery of job fairs, recruitment events, and employer outreach activities.
- Help maintain and update databases of employers, job seekers, and available positions.
- Communicate with job seekers and employers via phone, email, and in-person to facilitate connections.
- Prepare written materials such as job postings, outreach emails, and informational flyers.
- Assist with tracking performance metrics and preparing reports for the Business Services team.
- Participate in team meetings and provide general administrative support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program (preferred fields: Business, Human Resources, Communications, Public Administration, or related).
- Interest in workforce development, business relations, or human resources.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to conduct research and manage data accurately.
- Professionalism, reliability, and good interpersonal skills.
- Part-time, flexible hours to accommodate class schedules.
- Paid internship (hourly rate to be discussed).
