Field Application Engineer – Sugar Land, TX

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) serves as a key technical liaison with customers, design engineers, and production teams to deliver optimized solutions and drive customer satisfaction. This role provides pre‑ and post‑sales technical support, develops application solutions, and ensures successful integration of manufacturing products or systems into customer operations.

This position is part of the Sales Department at Systel and reports to the VP of Sales. It is 100% in‑person at our headquarters in Sugar Land, TX, with eligibility to work from home one day per week upon meeting training and productivity expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Pre‑Sales Technical Support
    • Lead technical discovery with customers and translate needs into clear problem statements and technical requirements.
    • Provide support in reviewing customer RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and Source Control Documents.
    • Assist with reviewing and creating formal quotations in accordance with customer requirements.
    • Provide product concepts and models to support RFI/RFQ responses.
  • Internal Collaboration
    • Create and review Requirement Traceability Matrix (RTM) upon customer order receipt.
    • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure departmental alignment and clear handoffs; stay up to date on hardware developments.
    • Keep abreast of new Systel products and configurations released.
  • Customer and Market Engagement
    • Assist sales teams with customer conference calls or onsite visits.
    • Travel with sales teams, as needed, to present and demonstrate products to prospects at all levels within the organization.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
    • Attend trade shows, exhibitions, and networking events to promote products and stay current with industry trends, market activities, and competitive landscape.
  • Process and Systems
    • Meet or exceed assigned sales targets and KPIs.
    • Maintain internal correspondence/workflow and action items using various internal systems.
    • Follow all Systel policies, processes, and procedures and help maintain and optimize processes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience supporting a sales team and reviewing customer requirements
  • Strong pre‑ and post‑sales support experience, including onsite customer visits
  • Experience supporting RFI/RFQ/quotes and reviewing technical documents (SCDs, drawings, BOMs, compliance matrices)
  • Experience working with Sales, Product Development, and Engineering teams
  • Knowledge of ruggedized computer and peripheral system applications
  • Knowledge of compliance matrix, parts drawings, and Bill of Materials
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to tailor depth to audience
  • Ability to build strong long‑term relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to manage and set priorities to meet customer expectations
  • Comfortable balancing competing demands and progressing several work streams simultaneously; successful multitasker
  • Strong leadership skills; self‑starter
  • Willingness to travel on short notice (~10‑25%)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience as a Sales Engineer, FAE, or in Technical Support
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD for concepting and fit checks
  • Background in ruggedized computing or mission‑critical electronics
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and Jira
