Job Overview
Open Science Implementation Contractor – 1‑year remote contract, 40 hrs per week, full‑time.
Location:
Remote (Atlanta, GA area if chosen).
Pay: $45.00 – $50.00 per hour.
Position DescriptionThis 1‑year remote contractor opportunity is with the CDC’s Office of Science Quality and Library Services (OSQLS) Knowledge Management Team. The KM team supports electronic scientific clearance, a public access repository, content management, and routing of documents, forms, and plans. They also provide training and guidance on system use. As CDC emphasizes Open Science concepts, the KM team requests an Open Science expert to help researchers create open science packages, analyze systems, propose enhancements, and provide training and support.
Key Responsibilities (Specific Duties)- Collaboratively develop and author KM team Open Science training materials and guidelines.
- Propose enhancements to KM software systems to improve Open Science practices.
- Develop and propose new Open Science workflows.
- Work with researchers to integrate Open Science principles into their research workflows.
- Coordinate with one or more CDC CIOs and provide OS outreach, instruction, and research support.
- Provide reference and research support to CDC researchers seeking OS implementation guidance.
- Collaborate with CDC employees in the implementation of OS practices.
- Participate in CDC and other federal open science committees and working groups, as appropriate.
- Support evolving duties over the contract period.
- Master’s or Doctorate in Library Science, Information Science, Computer Science, or related field.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, academic, and global Open Science guidelines and practices (U.S. Public Access policies, Gold Standard Science memorandum, Open Data policy and law).
- Experience with a variety of Open Science tools (DMPTool, Open Science Framework, Git Hub, repository software, data documentation tools).
- Excellent communication, training, and documentation creation skills.
- Expert knowledge of the Persistent Identifier (PID) landscape and experience working in one or more PID assignment interfaces.
- Experience working collaboratively in a diverse environment.
- Demonstrated federal, state, or academic Open Science leadership experience.
- Research experience implementing Open Science practices.
- Created training materials or delivered training to researchers on Open Science.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a document, data, or software repository.
- Library reference or IT help desk procedures, workflows, and ticketing systems experience.
- Web development experience.
Contract length: 1 year, ending September 30, 2026, with potential extension based on project needs and funding. This is a contract (not an employment) position. Remote work may be required to visit a federal office for CDC provisioning.
Work Week: full‑time, 40 hours per week.
