Systems Engineer
Our client, a global Financial Firm, based in Boston, is seeking a Systems Engineer to join their fund. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of progressive technical support experience with an emphasis in designing and delivering infrastructure solutions to end users.
You should possess educational and personal achievement along with a passion for technology. Financial industry knowledge is not a prerequisite, but an interest in the application of technology to support a finance environment is a must. Providing excellent internal support and quickly learning new technologies will be necessary in this position.
The Operations Engineering team is responsible for supporting the firm’s hybrid on-premises and cloud environment. This team is responsible for the management/maintenance of the 1500 Windows Server/Linux Systems across private and public cloud, along with storage, enterprise monitoring platforms, database operations, and application issues.
This role’s working hours cover the Pacific time zone (noon to 9pm Eastern time) and they are expected to work Sunday through Thursday.

- Problem solving, can-do attitude and proven skills in researching and fixing issues using resources at hand
- Demonstrated technical expertise in application support including maintaining and troubleshooting complex applications in support of critical business functions
- Demonstrated competence with analyzing, documenting, troubleshooting, administering, and evaluating:
Windows Server, Active Directory, System Center Suite, CIFS file systems, storage arrays (Net App and Pure), and Citrix. Knowledge and administration of VMware ESX server and/or Ubuntu a plus. High level competence should be demonstrated in at least 3 of these technologies. - Experience with Azure IaaS, PaaS, SaaS services, including Entra AZ104 Qualification or higher
- Experience with release management technologies such as Azure Dev Ops. Experience with change management principles such as analysis of overlapping changes and evaluation of severity based on the change’s business impact.
- Ability to spot patterns and communicate them effectively for remediation by working independently or with engineering teams to fix the root cause of the problem using a scalable solution.
- Basic understanding and experience with automation tools and/or orchestrators such as Azure Function Apps/Runbooks and Service Now
- Solid understanding of networking and distributed computing concepts, including principles of network-routing client/server applications
- Experience with multiple monitoring methodologies including SSH, agent based, and push/pull concepts
Nice to have:
- Understanding of Splunk, Enterprise Scheduler or similar enterprise scheduler tools, and MoveIT or similar file transfer tools
- Basic understanding of SQL
- Knowledge of blade and rack server hardware management
- Demonstrated proficiency with CIFS, NFS, TCP/IP, LDAP, SSH, DNS, SMTP, load balancing and troubleshooting
