Position: Wikidata Platform Backend Migration Specialist (Contract Position)

What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
  • Analyze existing Wikidata Query Service (WDQS) queries to identify dependencies on Blaze graph-specific extensions
  • Rewrite and document compatible queries for the new backend system
  • Conduct heuristic-based analysis to estimate the impact of migration on existing queries
  • Provide community support through documented responses and office hours
  • Update user-facing and technical documentation to ensure clarity and accuracy during the migration process
What is Required (Qualifications)
  • Strong hands-on experience with SPARQL, including SPARQL 1.1
  • Experience working with large or complex RDF datasets
  • Proven experience with data platform migrations or deprecating legacy APIs
  • Exceptional written communication skills, particularly for technical documentation
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple stakeholders
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Familiarity with Wikidata, WDQS, or Media Wiki-adjacent tooling
  • Experience supporting developer or researcher communities
  • Background in designing heuristics or lightweight analysis for query usage patterns
