Director-Property & Casualty Analytics (hybrid/remote)

Summary: This role is responsible for leading advanced analytics and modeling efforts that support critical business decisions across Grange, including product, pricing, underwriting, sales, and claims for both Personal and Commercial Lines. Develop and apply predictive models and analytical insights to improve business outcomes and performance across the insurance lifecycle. Partner with leaders across the organization to translate analytics into strategies that enhance effectiveness and drive results across all business units and functions.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead a team of Data Scientists to research, create, and maintain advanced pricing and risk models that support product, underwriting, claims, and sales decisions across P&C products.
  • Work with AVP, Enterprise Analytics to identify, adopt and maintain industry and overall analytic best practices at Grange in the areas of statistical analysis and modeling, data management and analytic software knowledge.
  • Actively advise Product Managers in PL and CL on the modification of national product models to take advantage of industry best practices, market segmentation and competitor activities and developments with respect to modeling sophistication and market success.
  • Ensure the Enterprise is using and maintaining an efficient, effective, and scalable platform to operationalize pricing, underwriting and claims models.
  • Establish and maintain best practice routines for model maintenance, validation and refresh.
  • Direct the development of data mining techniques and statistical modeling tools to analyze P&C product and pricing information.
  • Research and utilize the ever-growing market available data to improve Grange’s pure premium prediction capabilities and accuracy.
  • Analyze business models and strategies to measure their effectiveness. Continuously review/refine national product models to achieve maximum adaptability, ease of use, and optimize product profitability and growth.
  • Ability to partner with the corporate IT department and data warehouse team to develop technology solutions that advance data capture, aggregation, and dissemination.
  • Hire, train and motivate data scientists to achieve business objectives.

What You’ll Bring To The Company:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Advanced degree in statistics or related areas that includes research methodology, advanced analytics, data mining techniques, statistical/predictive modeling and applied statistics are strongly preferred. Ten years' experience with advanced use of statistics and dynamic model building strongly preferred. Three or more years' experience managing a team of statistical analysts or data scientists preferred. Prior insurance industry experience including product research and development, or equivalent experience, is required.

Candidate must have an aptitude for critical thinking and problem resolution and strong communication skills.
