The Data & Analytics Director will oversee the data strategy, governance, and operations for a specialty property & casualty insurance provider in the Midwest. This role involves managing data infrastructure, ensuring data quality, and leveraging data to support investment strategies and decision-making processes. You will have the ability to interact and work directly with their CIO who is in the process of revamping and overhauling their entire data environment.
Key Responsibilities- Data Strategy and Governance:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive data management strategy.
- Establish data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.
- Collaborate with senior management to align data initiatives with business objectives.
- Data Infrastructure and Operations:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of data infrastructure.
- Ensure efficient data ingestion, storage, and retrieval processes.
- Manage data integration from various sources
- Data Quality and Analytics:
- Implement data quality standards and perform regular data audits.
- Develop and maintain data models and analytics frameworks.
- Support quantitative research and trading teams with data-driven insights.
- Team Leadership and
Collaboration: - Lead and mentor a team of data professionals, including data engineers, data scientists, and analysts.
- Foster a collaborative environment with other departments, such as IT, compliance, and trading.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the data team.
- Technology and Tools:
- Evaluate and implement advanced data management tools and technologies.
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies in data management and analytics.
- Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Extensive experience in data management, preferably within the insurance industry, specifically property & casualty
- Proven track record of developing and implementing data strategies and governance frameworks.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of data management tools and technologies.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities.
- Familiarity with financial markets and investment strategies.
- Experience with alternative data sources and big data technologies.
- Knowledge of machine learning and AI applications in finance.
- Certifications in data management or related fields.
