LMS Administrator Description
Position OverviewThe LMS Administrator at South College will be responsible for configuration, security, and integration of the school’s LMS software. This role will collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand requirements, architect solutions, and deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that drive efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities- Administer and configure the LMS, including system settings, roles, permissions, sub-accounts, and workflows.
- Manage term structures, course provisioning, and access controls aligned with centralized academic processes.
- Troubleshoot complex LMS issues related to permissions, enrollments, integrations, data syncs, and system behavior.
- Coordinate LMS updates, feature releases, and regression testing in collaboration with IT and vendors
- Manage blueprint templates, including associations, sync schedules, content lock rules, and exception handling.
- Support centralized course rollovers, resets, and term-based provisioning.
- Coordinate blueprint updates with the Instructional Design team to ensure scalable, consistent course delivery.
- Monitor and resolve blueprint sync errors, conflicts, and downstream impacts.
- Administer the full lifecycle of LTI integrations, including configuration, security, testing, deployment, and retirement.
- Collaborate with IT, vendors, and instructional designers to evaluate and implement new instructional tools.
- Test LTI tools in non-production and production environments to validate functionality, permissions, grade pass back, and user experience.
- Troubleshoot LTI-related issues involving authentication, data exchange, role mapping, and performance.
- Maintain documentation and inventories of approved tools, configurations, and testing outcomes.
- Serve as the technical liaison translating instructional requirements into LMS and integration configurations.
- Support instructional technologies (publisher tools, media platforms, assessment systems) from a systems perspective.
- Advise on accessibility, usability, and consistency related to LMS configuration and tool selection.
- Manage and monitor LMS integrations with SIS, identity management/SSO, reporting platforms, and third-party systems.
- Partner with IT on data flows, error resolution, monitoring, and system performance.
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, WCAG accessibility standards, and institutional data governance policies.
- Support backup, recovery, and disaster planning related to the LMS and connected tools.
- Develop and maintain LMS reports and dashboards for academic leadership, compliance, and assessment.
- Validate data integrity across blueprint-associated courses, sections, and terms.
- Participate in LMS governance, change management, and tool approval processes.
- Recommend improvements to workflows, automation, testing practices, and system scalability.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for LMS configurations, integrations, and testing procedures.
- Develop user-facing documentation explaining LMS behavior within a centralized, blueprint-driven model.
- Contribute to training resources related to LMS features, tools, and supported integrations.
- Transition into a supervisory role as the function grows, with responsibility for hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and supervising an LMS and academic technology team, and establishing team roles, workflows, and operational standards.
