Senior Duck Creek Billing Technical Lead

Saige Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Duck Creek Billing Technical Lead to support one of our enterprise clients in the insurance/financial services space. This role will lead the end-to-end technical delivery of Duck Creek Billing implementations and upgrades, partnering closely with Application Development leadership, architects, developers, QA, vendors, and business stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with deep Duck Creek Billing expertise, a passion for clean architecture, and a mindset focused on continuous improvement, mentorship, and system scalability.
Essential Functions- Partner with Application Development leadership to create technical specifications, designs, and implementations using Duck Creek Billing
- Lead end-to-end technical delivery of Duck Creek Billing implementations and upgrades, including planning, execution, and monitoring
- Design, create, and prepare system enhancements and upgrades based on business and IT priorities
- Collaborate with architects and developers to design resilient, loosely coupled, and independently deployable integrations
- Provide guidance on scoping, estimation, and feasibility of enhancements and support requests
- Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and methodologies (microservices, CI/CD, Dev Ops)
- Mentor and train Duck Creek Software Developers, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous learning
- Communicate clearly with department leadership regarding assignments, progress, and risks
- Partner with QA teams to remediate defects and improve overall system quality
- Actively manage and reduce technical debt while improving long-term maintainability
- Ensure adherence to high standards for code quality, security, performance, and release automation
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, including participation in rotating on-call support
- Collaborate with internal and external customers to define enterprise solution requirements
- Work with vendors and systems integrators on integrations and co-development efforts
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams and technical documentation
- Provide feedback to IT leadership on training needs and evolving technology stacks
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration (technology-focused), or equivalent work experience
Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience with Duck Creek Billing configuration, upgrades, and support
Experience in the insurance or financial services industry
Required Technical Expertise
- Duck Creek Billing platform experience including:
Agency Bill, Direct Bill, and Commissions (OnDemand 8.x) - Active Delivery
- Hands-on experience with Duck Creek tools:
Express, Server, Author, Transact, Rating, Forms, User Admin - Shredding, XSLT, XML, HTML5, SQL
- Experience with:
Inheritance models and Manuscript data model - Product versioning within Duck Creek platforms
- Writing complex SQL queries for data troubleshooting and fixes (ODCH)
- Git repository management
- Internal Collections
- Commercial & Personal Lines templates (ISO & non-ISO)
- Duck Creek AMI, Anywhere API, Message Hub
- Duck Creek Clarity (preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
Microservices architectures and integration patterns - Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Production-grade system design and support best practices
- Proven ability to independently analyze and resolve complex technical issues
- Strong judgment, decision-making, and prioritization skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and vendors
- Self-motivated with a passion for learning and adopting new technologies
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload with urgency and precision
