Position: Lead Azure Data Engineer (Synapse/Fabric) - EST/CST Remote

The Lead Azure Data Engineer serves as a senior technical expert and architect responsible for the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-scale data solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies. This role operates at an enterprise level, owning solution architecture, implementation, and operational excellence, including technology best practices, service level agreements, and participation in a 24x7 support model in partnership with business leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather requirements and design data solutions that address complex enterprise business needs.
  • Architect, develop, and implement scalable, secure, and highly available Azure-based data platforms and applications.
  • Manage and maintain operational controls, procedures, and standards to ensure assigned IT services are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Act as a coordinator for enterprise-wide priorities, identifying risks and issues, driving cross-functional collaboration, and clearly communicating progress and outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Assess incoming work requests, establish priorities, and define delivery and resolution targets.
  • Support IT leadership with annual budget planning, forecasting, and monthly cost allocation activities.
  • Own disaster recovery planning and execution, as well as adherence to change management standards and procedures.
  • Lead and support teams in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and optimizing application usage and reliability.
  • Establish, monitor, and continuously improve service delivery metrics, including availability, reliability, accuracy, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with leaders across the organization to define requirements and obtain approval for new systems and platform enhancements.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of complex initiatives that support both short- and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Estimate effort, timelines, and costs across multiple projects and teams.
  • Provide input into hiring and resource planning decisions.
  • Continuously advance technical and business expertise through training, hands-on project work, and engagement with vendors, partners, and professional communities.
  • Manage and maintain accountability for enterprise technology resources and assets.
  • Operate in a cross-functional capacity to support business and organizational priorities.
  • Participate in a 24-hour on-call support rotation, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in alignment with company AAP/EEO policies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of experience designing and implementing data warehouse architectures, including data delivery, data modeling, ETL processes, and master data management.
  • Recognized expertise in cloud data engineering, with hands-on experience in Microsoft Azure Synapse and/or Microsoft Fabric.
  • 8+ years of experience with Azure data engineering technologies, including Azure Synapse Studio, pipelines and workflows, Python notebooks, serverless analytics pools, SQL development, and Dev Ops practices.
  • Strong understanding of Azure monitoring, observability, and cost management tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Cost Management.
  • Functional knowledge of SAP AFS modules, including Sales & Distribution, Order-to-Cash, Materials Management, and Procure-to-Pay, is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications or equivalent advanced training preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery and ownership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across teams and leadership levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
