The Head of Digital Preservation reports to the Associate Director for Preservation Digital Strategies and provides leadership and strategic direction for digital preservation efforts. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining policies to ensure the preservation and accessibility of collections, advocating for sustainable stewardship, and integrating digital preservation considerations throughout the lifecycle of digital assets.
The role involves team building, fostering a supportive remote work culture, and collaborating with stakeholders to develop technical solutions aligned with the library’s strategic goals. The position also entails raising awareness about digital preservation, managing a team of digital preservation librarians and specialists, and overseeing a large-scale digital preservation program that includes the library’s digital repository and born-digital accessioning services.
Key duties include developing policies, researching new tools and strategies, managing vendor relationships, coordinating with IT and other departments for infrastructure and workflow integration, and participating in outreach and professional activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in digital preservation, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
