Position Summary

GCS is seeking a GIS Analyst to support delivery of GIS projects for public and private sector customers. This role focuses on spatial analysis, data management, cartography, workflow configuration, and supporting implementation of ArcGIS-based solutions.

This is a professional services consulting role
, which means the GIS Analyst must be customer-facing and demonstrate a high level of professionalism in communication, collaboration, and overall approach. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, technically capable, and comfortable working across multiple customer engagements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform spatial analysis and geoprocessing to support customer workflows and decision‑making
  • Create and maintain GIS datasets, including feature classes, tables, domains, and metadata
  • Produce maps and cartographic deliverables for web and print use
  • Configure ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise components as needed (items, layers, web maps, dashboards, apps)
  • Support field data collection and operational workflows using ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey

  • Assist with data QA/QC, schema validation, and data migration activities
  • Document workflows and produce clear, repeatable procedures for end users and internal teams
  • Participate in customer meetings and working sessions, including requirements discussions and solution reviews
  • Communicate clearly with customers and internal delivery teams regarding progress, risks, and next steps
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, and architects to deliver high‑quality solutions
  • Assistance with technical GIS proposal writing
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of hands‑on GIS experience (public sector, consulting, utilities, transportation, natural resources, or similar)
  • Strong working knowledge of Esri ArcGIS Pro and core GIS concepts
  • Experience working with GIS data formats, coordinate systems, projections, and common geoprocessing tools
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and communicate progress clearly
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills suitable for customer‑facing work
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Enterprise administration and configuration
  • Familiarity with dashboards and web apps (ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builder, Web App Builder)
  • Working knowledge of SQL (Postgre

    SQL, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Scripting experience in Python (Arc Py, pandas, automation scripts)
  • Experience supporting GIS integrations, ETL, or data pipelines
  • Relevant certifications (Esri Technical Certifications, GISP, AWS fundamentals)

Work Location and Schedule
  • This position is based in the GCS office in Missoula, Montana (Hip Strip).
  • The role is expected to be in‑office to support onboarding, team integration, and close collaboration with customers and delivery teams.
  • This is not a fully remote position
    , and candidates should plan to work from our Missoula office during the first year.
