About the Role

MGM Reporting, a division of MGM Trial Services, is seeking professional and adaptable Digital Court Reporter to serve as the custodian of the legal record during depositions. Our firm utilizes audio/video recording equipment and ASR transcription software to capture testimony.

This position may be fulfilled by a full-time employee or by one or more contractors.

The ideal, full-time candidate will not only serve as an officer of the proceedings—administering oaths, ensuring participants speak clearly and one at a time, handling exhibits, verifying spellings, and so on. S/he will further scope and proofread the majority of the deposition transcripts. The reporter, not a secondary transcriptionist, will certify all transcripts.

The full-time position is hybrid
, with both remote and in-person work in the Baltimore - D.C. region (the majority remote). Contractors in certain capacities may be fully remote.

Digital reporter candidates must have, or be eligible to obtain, a State Notary commission.

What You’ll Do
  • Set up and operate audio/video recording equipment for depositions, troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Administer oaths and ensure proceedings are conducted clearly and professionally.
  • Manage transcription software during proceedings, diarizing appropriately to ensure adequate rough transcripts.
  • Scope and proofread transcripts to ensure verbatim accuracy.
  • Exercise critical judgment in resolving ambiguities.
  • Verify spellings for proper names and other technical details.
  • Ensure transcripts meet legal formatting conventions and company standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive legal materials.
  • Adhere to project deadlines while maintaining meticulous accuracy.
What We’re Looking For
  • Excellent listening, communication, and editorial skills.
  • Professional appearance and client-facing demeanor.
  • Reliability, adaptability, and calmness under pressure.
  • Comfort with technology; willingness to learn new hardware and software.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment (approx. 30 lbs.).
Required
  • An exceptional command of English grammar, usage, and mechanics.
  • Full-time candidates must be AAERT certified (CDR and CET) within one year of employment.
  • Full-time candidates must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed for assignment-related travel).
Preferred
  • Eligibility to become a Maryland Notary.
  • At least 1 year of experience in legal, technical, or professional settings.
  • 2- or 4-year degree.
  • A proven background in professional writing and editing.
  • Familiarity with legal, medical, and business terminology.
