Salary range:
Compensation varies by delivery format.
- Synchronous Live Online: $3,000–$4,000 total per course.
- Asynchronous Start‑Anytime Online: $165 per final student grade; estimated $660–$21,285 total per course; monthly payments typically begin six months after course start.
Percent time:
Part‑time, on a course‑by‑course basis.
Anticipated start:
Some appointments may begin as early as the spring semester.
Review timeline:
Positions are considered as needs arise; the applicant pool remains for 9–12 months.
Position duration:
Course length ranges from 10–12 weeks for fall, spring, and summer; 9–18 months for start‑anytime courses; further agreements depend on program needs.
UC Berkeley Extension (UNEX) invites dynamic instructors in Data Analytics, Data Science, Software Development, and Cybersecurity to teach online courses in the Engineering, Technology, and Environmental Management department.
Courses are delivered asynchronously through Canvas or synchronously via Zoom. Most live courses are in the evening and on weekends (Pacific Time).

General Duties- For synchronous (Live Online) courses: develop syllabus, assignments, lesson plans; prepare and submit required texts and course materials; review and update Canvas site; deliver lectures and learning activities.
- For asynchronous courses: review syllabus and pre‑populated content; learn Canvas tools; request training as needed.
- For all formats: complete required trainings; respond to student questions promptly; grade assignments and post final grades; use campus‑supported platforms (Canvas, Zoom, instructor portal, Google Workspace); follow university and departmental policies; respond to requests from Program or Department Directors.
- All work performed in the United States; applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S. Visa sponsorship not available.
