Senior Applied Research Scientist

This role is a high-impact opportunity to shape the quality and usability of AI training data that powers cutting-edge models. You will lead the evaluation, curation, and optimization of large-scale datasets, ensuring they are diverse, representative, and high-performing. Working closely with research and engineering teams, you will design and apply statistical, computational, and machine learning methods to improve model outcomes. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic oversight, allowing you to define data quality standards, implement robust evaluation frameworks, and contribute to the development of automated tools for preprocessing and validation.

Ideal candidates are highly analytical, independent problem solvers with experience in AI pipelines and a passion for advancing data-centric research. This is a fully remote position in a fast-moving, high-trust, and collaborative environment.

• Lead the curation, assessment, and optimization of large-scale unstructured datasets for AI model training.
• Design and implement statistical and ML-based methods to evaluate dataset quality, diversity, and informativeness.
• Collaborate with model training teams to identify bottlenecks and enhance dataset performance.
• Establish data quality strategy, best practices, and evaluation frameworks for internal use.
• Assess external datasets for scalability, relevance, and integration, developing data scorecards.
• Contribute to R&D of tools that automate data preprocessing, validation, and enrichment.
• Communicate findings, strategies, and recommendations to research, engineering, and cross-functional teams.

• PhD or equivalent Master’s degree with 4+ years of industry experience in machine learning, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Deep understanding of AI training pipelines, including preprocessing, evaluation, and optimization.
• Experience working with large, unstructured datasets, particularly text-based data.
• Strong background in statistical analysis, bias detection, and data validation.
• Demonstrated ability to independently identify high-impact problems and implement solutions.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working across technical and cross-functional teams.
• Bonus: experience with synthetic data generation, data augmentation, or development of performance metrics; publications or open-source contributions in data-centric AI.
