About the Opportunity
This position provides support to the UNC System Office HR benefits office as well as constituent institutions. Serves as analyst and project administrator in the day‑to‑day administration of the university‑wide Optional Retirement Program, Sr. Administrator ORP, State Health Plan, and Empyrean Platform regarding retirement & disability elections. Contact for projects concerning ORP vendors, ORP Database, form management, reporting, analytics, and SHP retirees for state sponsored ORP and TSERS retirement benefits.
Works closely with System Office Retirement Director and IT on project initiatives, reporting, analytics, mailings, and ORP Database & Empyrean enhancements. Generates SAORP and SAERP calculations, Invoices; works closely with UNC System Plan Administrator, Retirement Plan Director, Benefits, and Finance. The Retirement Plans System Analyst will provide analytical, functional, and technical support to the UNCSO and Institutional HR Benefits and Payroll personnel in pursuit of retirement/benefits initiatives and other retirement‑related responsibilities, and other duties as assigned.
The position will provide functional and technical IT expertise to support software implementation and data maintenance within UNCSO & Campus benefits partners.
The position will have four broad areas of responsibility:
System Support and Administration, Data Management, Integrated System Reporting, and ad‑hoc Project work. The Analyst will work with various stakeholders including internal clients and business owners within UNCSO (including HR, Finance, IT and IR) and external stakeholders including campus HR offices, Shared Services Banner campuses, Office of State Human Resources, benefits vendors, consultants, state government and university officials. The Analyst will ensure all HR data is properly secured and protected.
The Analyst will work closely with the IT Division regarding UNCSO policies, procedures and special requirements related to IT.
This position is a remote work arrangement with occasional travel required to the UNC System Office located in Raleigh, NC. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2‑hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

System Office staff is responsible for executing the policies of the UNC Board of Governors and providing University‑wide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, business and financial management, long‑range planning, student affairs, research, legal affairs, and government relations. The UNC System Office also has administrative oversight of a number of University affiliates, including PBS North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and University of North Carolina Press.

The office of the Chief Operating Officer reports to the President of the University and is responsible for internal and campus‑focused operational priorities of the University. The office provides oversight for human resources, auditing, and compliance divisions. These divisions have both an internal responsibility to the system office operation and a campus‑focused coordinative /leadership role within the noted areas of expertise.
The office provides advice and briefings to the President and is expected to build and foster relationships on behalf of the President and to engage with Chancellors while leveraging their expertise to further the President's strategic priorities.
