AboutThe Role
We are seeking a Web Software Developer to provide support to our federal government customer. This role will provide for the design, development, enhancement, maintenance, and optimization of CDC's internal and external digital properties. The developer works closely with staff, Divisions, Communications Offices, and CDC stakeholders to ensure secure, accessible, high‑performing, and standards‑compliant web and digital solutions that support public health communication, data dissemination, and prevention initiatives.
This is a fully remote position. Candidates must be located in the United States. Occasional on‑site work may be required at the client’s location in Atlanta, GA based on client’s needs.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance internet and intranet properties, including websites, web portals, web applications, mobile websites, digital channels, widgets, and related components.
- Support and maintain web content management systems, web analytics services, graphical user interfaces, data visualization interfaces, and supporting multimedia and cloud‑based technologies.
- Build, deploy, and update websites and content modules using approved CDC Word Press templates and frameworks.
- Configure websites and components (navigation, headers, footers, templates, and layouts) in accordance with CDC web policies, standards, and best practices.
- Provide technical support for public health surveillance projects and initiatives, including development and dissemination of data, program materials, and analytical content.
- Develop and support secure, robust IT solutions such as web applications, electronic surveys, analytical components, reporting tools, microservices, APIs, and cloud‑based solutions.
- Perform quality assurance testing, cross‑browser testing, and validation to ensure functionality, usability, security, and compliance prior to submission for CDC review and clearance.
- Analyze web metrics and performance data to improve search engine optimization (SEO), site architecture, usability, and overall website performance.
- Identify and resolve operational issues such as broken links, missing assets, formatting errors, and performance problems across web and social media platforms.
- Ensure all digital properties comply with Section 508 accessibility requirements, health literacy standards, responsive web design principles, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Perform accessibility scans, remediate non‑compliant issues, and optimize images, PDFs, and other digital assets using appropriate tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro).
- Ensure compliance with CDC IT security policies and standards, including safeguards to protect sensitive data and personally identifiable information (PII).
- Collaborate with CDC information security officers and technical stakeholders as needed to support secure system design and operation.
- Provide expert technical recommendations to senior managers, subject matter experts, and program owners on emerging web, mobile, and digital technologies.
- Migrate legacy content to new templates or platforms and support template upgrades and modernization efforts.
- Support the dissemination and extended use of public health information by maintaining and enhancing HTML and Word Press‑based web resources in alignment with federal and CDC digital guidelines.
- Participate in CDC work groups, meetings, and advisory forums related to web, digital media and technology initiatives.
