Data Analyst, Data Science Manager
HED is hiring a Data Analyst who owns the full reporting lifecycle—from discovery through modeling, measure definition, and delivery of decision‑grade Power BI experiences.
About HEDWe are a team that is full of ideas, experience, creativity, passionate opinions, insatiable curiosity, uncompromising integrity, commitment, and skill. Our culture is about aspiration, embracing change and challenges, listening to (and learning from) each other, encouraging continual learning, and inspiring collective growth. As an inclusive, integrated architecture and engineering practice, we value the diversity of perspectives, experiences, abilities, and expertise that advance both the work we do, and the world we share.
DataAnalyst – Reporting & Decision Intelligence
HED is hiring a Data Analyst who owns the full reporting lifecycle—from discovery through modeling, measure definition, and delivery of decision‑grade Power BI experiences. You translate stakeholder questions into clear, governed metrics, shape trusted datasets (primarily Silver Gold), and turn signals into narratives that help project and business leaders act with confidence. You operate as an early warning system for data quality and KPI drift, and you partner closely with Practice and Corporate teams to improve how we see performance across projects.
EssentialFunctions
- Own reporting end‑to‑end: intake, discovery, definitions, dataset shaping, dashboard build, publishing, iteration, and ongoing maintenance.
- Build and maintain decision‑grade Power BI assets (models, measures, semantic consistency, accessibility‑aware UX, and performance optimization).
- Write, test, and document DAX measures that encode KPI logic clearly and consistently across reports.
- Shape governed data into decision‑ready outputs—primarily Silver Gold transformations; provide occasional Bronze Silver support without owning ingestion pipelines.
- Create insight narratives that explain what the data means, why it matters, and what actions it suggests—tailored to PMs, PICs, and business owners.
- Proactively detect anomalies, data quality issues, or metric drift; escape with evidence, impact framing, and recommendations.
- Validate and troubleshoot reporting outputs (grain, joins, filters, refresh behavior, and edge cases) to maintain trust and reliability.
- Maintain lightweight documentation (metric definitions, assumptions, change notes) so others can operate and extend reporting assets.
- Bachelor's degree in analytics, information systems, business, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2‑4 years of experience delivering analytics/reporting in AEC, construction, or a comparable project‑based delivery environment.
- Demonstrated ownership of production Power BI reporting end‑to‑end (requirements build publish maintain).
- Strong DAX proficiency (evaluation context, maintainability, and performance tradeoffs).
- Working knowledge of dimensional modeling concepts (grain, relationships, star schema thinking).
- Comfortable using Python for exploration, validation, and transformation work.
- Able to lead stakeholder discovery, present findings, and push back constructively when asks are ambiguous or misaligned with the data.
- Comfortable using AI‑enabled productivity tools for meetings and follow‑through (e.g., Fireflies AI Note Taker) in alignment with team norms and confidentiality expectations.
- Comfortable working with HED's core collaboration and enterprise tools (Office 365) and operating within governed enterprise systems (e.g., Deltek Vision, Workday).
- Uses responsible AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to accelerate work while protecting confidential information and preserving data integrity.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally via phone, video conferencing, and in person.
- Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
We embrace a hybrid model that promotes both autonomy and collaboration, including the freedom to work from home, with regular in‑office days to connect with teammates and build culture.
The office is a professional, open‑space environment designed for collaborative and independent work.
